On Saturday the 4th of February Mind and Sole and Mind Dippers hosted a Dip for Cancer support groups in Northumberland- The choice was Maggie's in Newcastle (See website in the Cancer Support group Heading)
We took 28 brave people into beautiful Druridge Bay Lake to brave the cold for 10+ Minutes. What an amazing day we had, the weather was calm, the water was lovely and our volunteers were as always amazing.
As a Mental health and well-being group it was extremely important to us to make sure that everyone was safe, and everyone had the best time. The whistle blow at 10.50 and we all entered the water, all you could hear from the dippers was the laughter and the chatter of voices and not teeth coming from the lake.
We had experienced
swimmers who graciously bobbed about to keep in with our rules and newbies who took the dip for the very first time.
The whistle blow again at 11 am and we all raced out of the water.
We all quickly wrapped ourselves in Dry robes, dressing gowns and hoodies to warm but the thoughts of the cold water soon disappeared once we were drinking hot chocolate and eating delicious cake. Our leaders really know how to make the best cake.
Thank you to all involved and to Coping with Cancer, Northumbria Cancer Patient and Carer Group and a massive thank you to Kelly from Northern Cancer Voices not just for her support but for collecting all the goodie bags and sending out emails to encourage people to take part. Such an amazing event and one we will make yearly……
